Herberton State School held an open day on the 12th December 2006 to mark two historical events. The original school opened in the School of Arts Hall on the 12th December 1881 which makes the school 125 years old. The second event marks the end of Preschool education and the beginning of Prep.
To mark the birthday, a special parade was held and current students' work and technology projects were on display. One of the highlights was the premiere of the 125th Celebration DVD created by students, staff and community members. A special thanks to Mr Ivan and Mrs Mary Searston who edited and compiled the DVD, and to PCAP for funding this project.
Lunch was a BYO old fashioned picnic so bring sandwiches, cake and fruit for a shared lunch. We also held old fashioned sports like three-legged races. Just like the good old days.
In the afternoon there was the unveiling of a sculpture memorial to the anniversary and cutting of the birthday cake. Special guests from Herberton's past were present, including Mrs Betty Jessop, the original Preschool teacher who closed the facility.
A wonderful time was had by all. A special thanks to Mrs Mary Searston who co-ordinated the day and to all our visitors that made the day so enjoyable. |
