The School in the Hills

Herberton State School caters for approximately 200 students from Prep to Year 10. As Herberton SS is a small country school, teachers and staff know each student and family in the school, providing a strong foundation for a safe and supportive learning environment at both our Primary and Secondary campuses. Our Secondary Campus is a multicultural learning environment made up of local students and students from a number of communities across Far North Queensland.

Herberton State School boasts a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy across all curriculum areas. Herberton State School recently achieved the Regional Showcase Award for Middle Schooling for our excellence in this phase of schooling. Our Secondary students also have the opportunity to participate in a range of specialist and vocational education subjects. All students are encouraged to excel in all areas and develop the skills and knowledge to progress on a positive pathway through the education years.

Herberton State School students have been very successful in a range of sporting events. The school is very proud to be the per capita Champion School at the Tablelands District Athletics carnival for 2007 and also the 15 years Tableland Rugby League Champions for 2007. All students are encouraged to be active participants in sport and the Health and Physical Education program.

Herberton State School is proud to be a strong state school in the Atherton Cluster of Educators. For more information about our school, please contact the Principal.

Pods are a way of organising students into learning groups. At Herberton State School Secondary Department this means small groups of students supported by two teachers and a teacher's aide.
